மேட்டுப்பாளையம் சட்டமன்ற தொகுதியில் அ.தி.மு.க. வேட்பாளர் ஓ.கே.சின்னராஜ் 3-வது முறையாக வெற்றி பெற்றுள்ளார்.
அ.தி.மு.க. வேட்பாளர் ஓ.கே.சின்னராஜ், 93595 வாக்குகள் பெற்றார். தி.மு.க. வேட்பாளர் சுரேந்திரன் 77,481 வாக்குகள் பெற்றார். இதன் மூலம் ஓ.கே.சின்னராஜ், தி.மு.க. வேட்பாளரை விட 16,114 வாக்குகள் அதிகம் பெற்று வெற்றி பெற்றார்.

3-வது முறையாக அ.தி.மு.க. வேட்பாளர் ஓ.கே.சின்னராஜ் கடந்த 2011-ம் ஆண்டு நடைபெற்ற சட்டமன்ற தேர்தலில் தி.மு.க. வேட்பாளர் பா.அருண்குமாரை விட 25,775 வாக்குகள் வித்தியாசத்தில் வெற்றி பெற்றார். இந்த முறையும் வெற்றி பெற்றதன் மூலம் ஓ.கே.சின்னராஜ் மேட்டுப்பாளையம் சட்டமன்ற தொகுதியில் இருந்து 3-வது முறையாக வெற்றி பெற்று எம்.எல்.ஏ. வாக தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளார் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

மேட்டுப்பாளையம் தொகுதிக்கு உள்பட்ட மலைக் கிராமங்களில் அத்தொகுதியின் அதிமுக வேட்பாளர் ஓ.கே.சின்னராஜ் திங்கள்கிழமை தீவிர வாக்கு சேகரிப்பில் ஈடுபட்டார்.

History of Coimbatore District
Coimbatore, also known as Kovai, is a major city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the second largest city and urban agglomeration in the state after Chennai and the sixteenth largest urban agglomeration in India. It is administered by the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation and is the administrative capital of Coimbatore district.
It is one of the fastest growing tier-II cities in India and a major textile, industrial, commercial, educational, information technology, healthcare and manufacturing hub of Tamil Nadu. It is often referred to as the “Manchester of South India” due to its cotton production and textile industries. Coimbatore is also referred to as “Pump City” and it supplies two thirds of India’s requirements of motors and pumps. The city is one of the largest exporters of jewellery, wet grinders, poultry and auto components with “Coimbatore Wet Grinder” and “Kovai Cora Cotton” recognized as Geographical Indications by the Government of India. The city is located on the banks of Noyyal river surrounded by the Western Ghats.
Originally Coimbatore district formed part of the Kongu country, the history of which dates back to the Sangam age. It is found that in early days the area was inhabited by tribes, the most predominant among them being the Kosars who are reported to have had their headquarters at Kosampathur which probably later became the present Coimbatore. However, tribal predominance did not last long as they were over-run by the Rashtra Kutas. From Rashtrakutas the region fell into the hands of the Cholas who were in prominence at the time of Raja Raja Chola.
