கூட்டத்துக்கு கட்சியின் முன்சிறை ஒன்றியச் செயலர் ஜீன்ஸ் தலைமை வகித்தார். மாவட்ட பொதுக்குழு உறுப்பினர் சலாம், கிள்ளியூர் ஒன்றியச் செயலர் ஜார்ஜ் ஆகியோர் முன்னிலை வகித்தனர்.

மாவட்டச் செயலரும், கன்னியாகுமரி தொகுதி வேட்பாளருமான என்.தளவாய்சுந்தரம் பங்கேற்று பேசுகையில்,கிள்ளியூர் சட்டப்பேரவைத் தொகுதி அதிமுக வேட்பாளர் மேரி கமலபாய் வெற்றிபெற கட்சியினர் தீவிரமாக வாக்கு சேகரிக்க வேண்டும் என்றார்.

புதுக்கடை சுற்றுவட்டாரப் பகுதிகளில் கிள்ளியூர் சட்டப்பேரவைத் தொகுதி அ.தி.மு.க. வேட்பாளர் மேரிகமலபாய் வெள்ளிக்கிழமை வாக்குசேகரித்தார்.

புதுக்கடை பேரூராட்சிக்கு உள்பட்ட புதுக்கடை பேருந்து நிலையம், சந்தை பகுதி, ஆர்.சி. தெரு சடையன்குழி, கைசூண்டி உள்ளிட்ட பகுதிகளில் வாக்கு சேகரிப்பில் ஈடுபட்டார்.

கிள்ளியூர் சட்டப்பேரவைத் தொகுதிக்குள்பட்ட பகுதிகளில் அதிமுக வேட்பாளர் மற்றும் நிர்வாகிகள் வியாழக்கிழமை வாக்குச் சேகரிப்பில் ஈடுபட்டனர்.

இத் தொகுதி அதிமுக வேட்பாளர் ஏ. மேரி கமலபாய், மங்காடு ஊராட்சிக்குள்பட்ட எஸ்.டி. மங்காடு பகுதியில் ஊரக வேலை உறுதித் திட்டப் பணியாளர்களிடம் வாக்கு சேகரித்தார். அவருடன், முன்சிறை அதிமுக செயலர் ஜீன்ஸ், மாநில பொதுக்குழு உறுப்பினர் கே.ஏ. சலாம், தொகுதி அதிமுக பொறுப்பாளர்கள் சுகுமாரன், தேங்கை சாகுல், விஜயகுமார் உள்ளிட்டோர் சென்றனர்.

கிள்ளியூர் தொகுதி அதிமுக தேர்தல் ஆலோசனைக் கூட்டம் புதுக்கடையில் நடைபெற்றது. இதில் கலந்துகொண்ட அவர் மேலும் பேசியதாவது:

இத்தொகுதி உறுப்பினராக நான் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டால், தேங்காய்ப்பட்டினம் மீன்பிடித் துறைமுகப் பணிகள் துரிதமாக நிறைவேற்றப்படும். இத் தொகுதிக்கு உள்பட்ட அனைத்து கடலோரக் கிராமங்களிலும் தூண்டில் வளைவு அமைக்கப்படும். கொல்லங்கோடு பகுதியில் பேருந்து நிலையம் அமைக்க நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும். இத் தொகுதியில் அரசு கலை மற்றும் அறிவியல் கல்லூரி அமைப்பதுடன் ரப்பர் தொழிற்சாலை கொண்டுவரவும் நடவடிக்கை எடுப்பேன் என்றார் அவர்.

History of Kanyakumari District

Kanyakumari also known as Kanniyakumari, formerly known as Cape Comorin, is a town in Kanyakumari District in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. The name comes from the Devi Kanya Kumari Temple in the region. Kanyakumari is used geographically to define southern end of the Coromandel Coast region.

Kanyakumari is located at 8.08°N 77.57°E. It has an average elevation of 300 metre. Contrary to the popular (and sensational) belief that Kanyakumari lies at the meeting point of three bodies of water, it borders only one: the Laccadive Sea to the south west, south, and to the southeast. It is the confluence of the Western Coastal Plains and Eastern Coastal Plains.

Kanyakumari has been a great centre for art and religion for centuries. It was also an area of great trade and commerce. It was ruled by the Cholas, the Cheras, the Pandyas and the Nayaks. The architectural beauty of the temples in the area are the works of these rulers.

Kumari Thanthai Marshal Nesamony was instrumental in the merger of Kanyakumari district with Tamil Nadu (then known as Madras State) in 1956 during the linguistic reorganisation of states.

Since the early 1970s, tourism has been an industry in the town. Because of this it is one of the few small towns in South India where one can hear many of the different languages of India spoken in the street.

The Thiruvalluvar Statue has a height of 95 feet (29 m) and stands upon a 38 foot (11.5 m) pedestal that represents the 38 chapters of “virtue” in the Thirukkural. The statue standing on the pedestal represents “wealth” and “pleasures”, signifying that wealth and love be earned and enjoyed on the foundation of solid virtue.The combined height of the statue and pedestal is 133 feet (40.5 m), denoting the 133 chapters in the Thirukkural. It has a total weight of 7000 tons.

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a popular tourist monument in Vavathurai, Kanyakumari, India. The memorial stands on one of two rocks located about 500 metres east of the mainland of Vavathurai, India’s southernmost tip. It was built in 1970 in honour of Swami Vivekananda who is said to have attained enlightenment on the rock.
